Knocker

Knocker

Lost in the endless rolling corn rows of southwest Wisconsin, where everything and everyone seem challenged, Knocker is an evolving experimental project, committed to dropping all chains of what is expected in popular music to develop a more primal direction. The result is a festival of sonic short films with a cast of dog-eared actors in unkempt hallucinogenic scenes.

Says one member, “It’s a Frankenstein process really, just taking a bunch of lifeless pieces, that met unfortunate and violent ends, and stitching them back into one, and bringing it back to life with powerful electronics. But like the story, the result can be more mutinous than planned.”

Recorded on a hundred-year-old farm in nearly complete isolation, many of the sonic means are found in the tool shed or barn. Befitting the environment, elements are often slowed to a crawl to reveal hidden nuance. Like gutting a fish, it becomes more open and carnal as creeping rhythms become disjointed from melody, spawning unsettling theater. “We’re dowsing for something, not sure for what, but it definitely ain’t water.”
